What is the best alcohol for fueling Stove?. [Best Backpacking Stove - http://backpackingstovejudge.com]
Introduction:
People on the move for the sake of having lightweight fuel prefer alcohol fuel as the best option for backpacking stoves. But once they reach some store, then the real challenge comes for them. The challenge is the range of alcohol fuel where all have their own particular properties, price and usefulness for the users.

- Ethanol:
Ethanol is the best fuel type which is also alternatively known as ethyl alcohol. It is known to have the highest level of calories per gram and it is also known to burn fairly quickly. If it is possible for you to get the absolute ethanol or the 190 proof liquor, then that will be the most useful option in this category. The major downside of both these types is that they can be really expensive options. Further, finding them is also not an easy thing as there are some restrictions. General public doesn’t have approach to such a kind and many of the commercial locations prohibit the sale of such alcohol fuel.

-Denatured Alcohol:
The denatured alcohol primarily consists of the ethanol. The major issue with this type is that in the US there are no set standards as to what can constitute a denatured alcohol. As a matter of fact, some of the denatured alcohol fuels that you find in the US are less than half ethanol. Moreover, there is an issue that some nasty stuff is used sometimes for denaturing of the alcohol by adding the stuff like methyl ethyl ketone. The fumes of such type can be toxic and not safe at all to breathe. The denature alcohol of ‘Green’ type is known to have a way higher ethanol content and on the other side, low level of the nasty content.

Factually, if the level of ethanol content is higher then it will be much better as a fuel. It is because of the reason that the fuel having higher ethanol content burns much hotter. There are at times when the burning is more than desired and the user might get some soot as well. If you find your stove to become overheated or producing any soot, then you must look to add some water into the fuel. The inclusion of water in the fuel with calm it down and it will also enable the proper mixing of alcohol with air. Make sure, that you add water slowly and not too much in the start.

-Methanol Alcohol:
It is a very popular alcohol fuel type. It is frequently available in the US in the yellow HEET bottle. You must look to carry some supplementary methanol as it is the type known for carrying a few calories per gram. The fumes of methanol fuel are toxic and the absorption of the fuel through the skin is toxic too. But, if you are careful in handling the fuel, then that would be sufficient. The vapor pressure of methanol is relatively higher than that of the ethanol fuel.

-Isopropanol Alcohol:
This one is the most common alcohol fuel type and easy to find in most of the drug stores. It is typically known as rubbing alcohol but it can be a dusty mess to burn. It is known to have the highest level of heat content per gram, but still it is not the most preferred option as it can be a real mess to burn. It is toxic in case of both skin absorption and in the fumes. The Red HEET also known as Iso-HEET is one of the kind, but it is not a recommended option by the experts.

If you have a best backpacking stove and you need a quality fuel for it, you should be careful enough to choose the most appropriate fuel as well in order to get the most out of it.
